30 Horses and One Rider

The Kalkkögel are a stunning mountain range near Innsbruck, Tyrol, known for their dramatic limestone formations. When I was 14, I climbed the North Tower with my father, an unforgettable experience that deepened my connection to these mountains. Today, as I walk from my retreat toward the mountain pastures of Krimpenbach Alm, I’m often greeted by the sight of horses grazing peacefully on the high plateau at 2,000 meters. These horses, set against the rugged backdrop of the Kalkkögel, inspired this painting. The dynamic beauty of the galloping horses and the raw, untamed ridges of the mountains seem to merge into a single, powerful image.
